What is fat transfer to face?
Fat transfer in Miami has become popular for patients seeking non-invasive facial rejuvenation. Dr. Alan Serure performs fat transfers by “harvesting” the patient’s own fat cells from an inconspicuous donor site. Fat cells are injecting into deep folds and wrinkles in the face. Fat transfer is also used to accentuate cheekbones, enhancing facial contours.
Where are the advantages of fat transfer?
With the use of the fat transfer, deep facial wrinkles, face and body contour irregularities may be addressed. Fat transfer procedures have been used in combination with facelifts, liposuction, and abdominoplasty procedures. Dr. Serure performs fat transfer as an adjunct in breast augmentation procedures.
How does a fat transfer procedure work?
The donor site for the fat transfer will be prepared using local anesthetic to minimize the patient’s discomfort during the withdrawal of fat. A syringe with a larger needle will be used for this step. After the fat has been taken from the donor site, it will be prepared and processed so that excess fluids that came with extraction are separated from the actual fat cells. The recipient site will then be anesthetized so that the processed fat can be re-injected with very minimal discomfort. Overcorrection with an excess amount of fat is sometimes necessary. The entire procedure may takes 1 hour to complete, with very minimal downtime afterwards.
What results do fat transfer procedures produce?
When used to enhance facial or other body features, fat transfers produce a more natural looking result with noticeably improved contours. Patients are asking for this type of filler because it does not produce any allergic reaction since the fat is taken from the patient’s own body. This means that there will be less adverse effects and the possibility of tissue rejection is eliminated as well. However, the results of a fat transfer procedure may not be permanent, and a repeat procedure is sometimes needed.
What happens during recovery?
Following a fat transfer procedure, the donor and grafted site will exhibit moderate swelling and bruising, which may persist for one or two weeks. Because of the over-correction method that may be employed, the recipient site will look swollen for up to two weeks until the excess fat is reabsorbed by the body. This is an outpatient procedure that may be performed with local anesthetic or mild sedation. Patients can usually resume their normal activities the following day after the fat transfer.
